Christmas Bouquet - V&J Plant Shop

I went to Granville Island today with the intention to only get some rubs from the Metropolitan Chef, but of course in true fashion, I became sidetracked by everything else and ended up with this gorgeous bouquet in one arm, a German sausage in one hand and a bag of truffle vinegar and pitted Kalamata olives in a bag slung in my other hand. I have to say, I really enjoyed my morning there and I’m glad I left when I did because I was eying the steaks and also the cheese counter at Benton Brothers. Far too many good things at Granville Island to eat.

But I made a stop at V&J Plant Shop, one of my favourite places to browse around in. They had all kinds of lovely wintery things and rather than purchase a few individual stems, I asked if they would make a winter posy for me specifically including the red berry and the cone leuchadendron. They then added the red rannuculas and some winter greens for finish. As I was in line for my lunch, I had gotten a few comments about the lovely bouquet and I couldn’t wait to get home and do this! I knew the colours would look amazing with our aging reclaimed shipyard wood dinner table and the little but lovely light we get from our basement dining room window. I’m super happy with how these turned out and am feeling rather festive.

Also, if you are interested in seeing more flower imagery, I did a Romantic Blooms series a few years ago featuring flowers from V&J. I am quite obsessed with well-arranged, high-quality bouquets, especially heritage blooms like hydrangeas, roses, peonies and the like. I am considering possibly doing another flower series in the spring when the variety will be greater, but am still pondering it at the moment. I don’t like doing the same thing twice, so I might put a new and different twist on it.

But for now, I hope these are putting a Christmas smile on your face. Happy Tuesday!

Blueberry Red Fashion Editorial (Part I)

I get inspired by a lot of different things but I think the thing that inspires me the most is texture and colour. It’s hard to say how it all works really - I just see something that appeals to me in any number of ways and then my head starts spinning with possibilities. I find that fall is the most overwhelming time of year for me visually simply because of the colours in nature and the quality of light is so different than any other time of year (some of the loveliest, I find) - it’s all so beautiful and I want to shoot so many things, but there is never enough time. This is the time of year I am sitting behind my computer editing weddings!  And I end up feeling a bit frantic because another fall season has gone by without me taking good advantage of it. Not this year! I made sure to get out and do some projects before the weather turned mid-November. One of those projects was this one.

This particular shoot was inspired by the numerous blueberry farms in Delta. We were driving to Point Roberts one day and I was so taken by the colour of the shrubs, I just knew I had to do something with that. We shot this series in a blueberry field in Richmond on a most beautiful, sunny weekday morning. Hair and makeup was done by Faye Smith and my lovely model was Alexandra Day, represented by Numa Models. Outfit was pulled from Urban Outfitters, model’s own and Aldo (necklace) with styling my me.

I just adore this colour palette and some of the detailing that went along with it. It’s just so warm and inviting and makes me feel so sunny inside. And of course, you have to love a red lip. And a big floppy felt hat. And an oversized cardi. Well…..you get the idea.

There is a part two version of this shoot that is very different - a cooler palette but still with a pop of orange for some visual interest. More on that later, though. For now, enjoy!

Iona Beach Couple’s Session

Back when Vancouver was experiencing an incredibly long cold snap, I met with Dawnda and Subraaz one weekday afternoon for a sun-drenched Iona Beach couple’s session. We didn’t stay out for too long because my fingers were quickly going numb but it was just long enough to capture a few frames of these two on the beach.

Enjoy!

Secret Garden at Woodbridge Ponds Wedding // Chilliwack Wedding Photographer

Back in May, I was asked by Andrea Ball Photography to second shoot a lovely Secret Garden at Woodbridge Ponds wedding in Chilliwack. My focus for the day was mainly the boys and also some candids and reception details. It was such a treat to not only work with Andrea but also to shoot a wedding in the Fraser Valley - the Secret Garden is such a great venue (and is on my wedding wish list!) and also the scenery in the area is lovely and pastoral. To see Andrea’s full wedding post, you can go here.

Happy Monday!

Tsawwassen Wedding // Sarah & Paul

SarahPaulCover

I first met Sarah at a church I was attending many years ago when I was in my early 20’s. She was fun and adventurous - we hit it off and soon became friends. It was exciting news when we she got engaged and we started to talk about photography for her wedding - I was so happy that her and Paul decided to have me attend their special day in Tsawwassen this fall.

From the start of the day at her family home to the reception held at St. David’s Anglican church, the day was punctuated with funny faces, silly dance moves and a whole lot of love between Sarah and Paul. What a wonderful match these two are together. And I just loved the way Paul couldn’t take his eyes off of Sarah when she arrived down the aisle in the church. It’s so beautiful when a couple truly adores one another so much.

Thank you so much for having me share in your Tsawwassen wedding! I know there are a few people anxiously waiting for these, so without further ado, here they are!

This is also my last wedding for 2014! It’s always a bittersweet moment to post the last wedding of the season because now that means it’s time to do some serious business stuff. And also some fun personal work. However if you are getting married or know of someone who is, I am currently booking for 2015! I would love to chat with you about your wedding day! Please do send me an email at [email protected].

Enjoy!
