Welcome to the Blog

Welcome to the Simply Rose blog! I am so glad that you have found your way here. This is where you will find my latest work and musings, anything from weddings to what my son has been doing lately.  There is lots to look at, so grab a cup of something warm and yummy and maybe a blueberry scone to go with it and stay a while. And don't be shy ~ leave a note ~ I'd love to hear from you!

Leucodendron

Back at it today!

Today’s flower is called Leucodendron and is from Olla ~ Urban Flower Project based out of Gastown in Vancouver. I met Dionne and Megan while working on the Eco-Wedding project and fell in love with the studio space downtown, their unique designs and business philosophy. To see more about Olla Flowers, you can go to their website here and don’t forget to read about their background here.

I like this one….I haven’t seen this bloom before but the subtle colours were just so pretty along with the dark-tipped leaves. I can imagine this flower looking beautiful in a simple bouquet for a spring wedding.

  • Emily Hoskins: It's gorgeous! Very simple and subtle, but breath-taking! (February 1, 2023 8:56 am)
  • Simply Rose: Thanks, Em! (February 1, 2023 9:30 am)

Pomegranate

I bought a Pomegranate the other day because I wanted something interesting to photograph. Now, I have never bought a Pomegranate before and I think after my first time experience, won’t make a habit out of it. Granted, the inside is extremely pretty and vibrantly coloured and indeed lovely to photograph, trying to eat the thing is a whole other ball of wax.

I tried a few of the seeds and then realized that the whole juicy seed just wasn’t that good. So my Mom and I made juice instead. We dug the whole inside out and pressed the seeds into a sieve ~ so time consuming! But we ended up with this thick, sweet, red juice that was so, so good. My son loved it! There’s probably a better way to eat them or juice them but I think for now, I’ll just admire these pictures and remember my first Pomegranate experience as being awkward.

  • Crystal R.: We use them on salads. They taste yummy and add a really nice colour to your salad, especially around christmas time :) (January 31, 2023 9:34 am)
  • Simply Rose: That would be festive, great idea! (January 31, 2023 11:42 am)

Up and Coming

There is a very good reason why I didn’t have a Romantic Bloom this Monday or an installment for Green Wedding Wednesday. I have been so busy, I don’t think I’ve had a square meal in a week!

I have been working on a project since Christmas and one that I don’t want to reveal too much about yet. But I will share these few pictures of some gorgeous hair fascinators from Carmen West Creative that are a part of said project. I’m shooting it on Saturday so stay tuned!

I’ve also been working on items for my Etsy shop. I haven’t been getting very far with it because the project has been consuming most of my time of late, but I’m anxious to start getting these out there! Is it weird to say that I want to keep them all for myself? I love all the images I’ve printed so far and adding the Museum Rag matting and backing makes it all the more gorgeous. Everything is custom handmade! This peony print is 7×7 matted with a 3×3 image. These little guys will be ready to display on an easel or framed, but more details to come!

I am also working away at getting all of my custom, locally made albums and boxes as well for the Grassroots Wedding Fair coming up in February. I am also showcasing some neat picture frames and canvas art. Unfortunately I don’t have any images yet, everything is still in process, but nearly done!

Aaaand, I’ve been meeting folks and booking weddings! I still have some dates left this summer, so if you are looking for a wedding photographer or know of someone looking for one, pass me along! I’d really appreciate it.

As you can see, it’s been busy around here ~ I’ve been planning, scheming, dreaming, ordering, coordinating, designing, crafting, photographing…whew! I’m tired. I need a holiday!

Happy Thursday!

  • Robyn: Good for you, this is all excellent, I'm excited for you!!!! (January 28, 2023 5:47 pm)
  • Kim Spears: I don't blame you for wanting to keep them! It looks stunning! (January 30, 2023 11:32 am)

#90 ~ Update the Facebook Page

Well, I actually completed this one a little while ago but forgot to mark it off the list! And the first one, too.

I had my designer, Amy of Candy Apple Studios make a few files for me to add to my Facebook page. Just to spice things up a bit. I started looking at FBML last year already but couldn’t figure out how to get the files working and gave up on the task.

But now, there are much better resources online for learning how to do this, you just need to find the right one that makes sense to you. So I hunkered down one afternoon, did a bit of research, followed the instructions and it actually worked. I was pleasantly surprised, especially since I muddle my way along with any kind of code.

If you haven’t been to my Facebook page yet, you’ll see a welcome banner. Click on the welcome image and you go to my site landing page. And once you become a fan, you’ll always land on the wall.

So come on over to check it out! You can find it here.
